Jared Dicus
Jared James Dicus murdered his 21-year-old wife, Anggy Diaz, at their home in Waller County, Texas, on January 11, 2023, less than three months after they were married. After killing Diaz with a kitchen knife, Dicus decapitated and partially dismembered her body before confessing to investigators. He later pleaded guilty to murder, was sentenced to 40 years in prison in July 2024, waived his right to appeal and any insanity defense, and remained incarcerated until his death in prison in January 2026 from a self-inflicted injury.
Early Life
Jared James Dicus was born in 2001 and lived with his family in rural Waller County, Texas, northwest of Houston. Little has been publicly released about his childhood or education. As a young adult, he lived in a small home located behind his parents' residence on Oak Hollow Boulevard near Magnolia.
In October 2022, Dicus married Anggy Diaz, a 21-year-old immigrant from Nicaragua. Friends and relatives were surprised by the marriage, describing the relationship as turbulent. Diaz worked multiple jobs while helping support her mother, who was undergoing cancer treatment in Nicaragua.
Killing Spree
On January 11, 2023, Dicus killed Anggy Diaz inside the couple's home. Investigators determined she had been attacked repeatedly with a kitchen knife before being decapitated. Portions of her body were also dismembered inside the residence.
Dicus's father discovered the horrific crime scene after his son entered the main house and made statements that caused concern. He immediately went to check on Diaz, found her body, and called 911. Waller County Sheriff's deputies arrived to find the home covered in blood, with Diaz's severed head located in the shower and other body parts throughout the residence.
Following his arrest, Dicus admitted responsibility for killing his wife. Authorities investigated possible motives but never publicly identified a definitive reason for the murder.
Modus Operandi
Dicus used a kitchen knife to repeatedly stab and kill Anggy Diaz before decapitating and partially dismembering her body. The murder occurred inside the couple's home on property owned by his parents.
The extensive mutilation of the body and the condition of the crime scene made the homicide one of the most disturbing domestic murders in recent Texas history. Investigators found no evidence that anyone else had been involved in the killing.
Capture
After discovering Diaz's body, Dicus's father contacted emergency services. Deputies from the Waller County Sheriff's Office responded immediately and secured the property.
Dicus remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident. During questioning, he confessed to killing his wife. Investigators recovered the murder weapon, believed to be a kitchen knife, and spent days processing the extensive crime scene.
Trial & Sentence
Dicus was charged with murder in Waller County. During the pretrial proceedings, concerns were raised regarding his competency to stand trial, prompting a court-ordered mental evaluation. Mental health experts ultimately found him competent to proceed.
On July 31, 2024, Dicus pleaded guilty to murder as part of a negotiated plea agreement. He waived his right to appeal, any future habeas petitions, and any potential insanity defense. Judge Gary Chaney sentenced him to 40 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Under Texas law, he would not become eligible for parole until 2043.
While serving his sentence at the Wainwright Unit in Houston County, Dicus died on January 16, 2026, from a self-inflicted injury. His death ended any remaining legal proceedings connected to the case.
