Fotis Dulos became the focus of an internationally publicized criminal investigation after his estranged wife, Jennifer Dulos, disappeared from New Canaan, Connecticut, on May 24, 2019. Prosecutors alleged that Dulos murdered Jennifer during a contentious divorce and child custody dispute before attempting to dispose of evidence. He pleaded not guilty to all charges but died by suicide in January 2020 before his trial began. Jennifer Dulos has never been found and is legally presumed dead.

Early Life
Fotis Dulos was born on August 6, 1967, in Turkey to Greek parents and later moved to the United States to pursue higher education. He attended Brown University before earning a graduate degree in business from Columbia University.
He settled in Connecticut, where he founded a luxury home construction company and became well known within the local real estate community. Dulos married Jennifer Farber in 2004, and the couple had five children before their relationship deteriorated.
By 2017, the marriage had broken down, leading to a highly contested divorce and custody dispute that remained ongoing at the time of Jennifer's disappearance.
Killing Spree
Authorities alleged that on May 24, 2019, Fotis Dulos attacked Jennifer Dulos at her home in New Canaan shortly after she returned from dropping the couple's children at school.
According to prosecutors, Jennifer was killed inside the residence before her body was transported to an unknown location. Despite extensive searches across Connecticut and neighbouring states, her remains have never been recovered.
The investigation centred on a single alleged homicide. Jennifer Dulos has never been located and was legally declared dead in 2023.
Modus Operandi
Prosecutors alleged that Dulos planned the killing in advance and later attempted to conceal evidence.
Investigators relied heavily on surveillance footage, forensic evidence recovered from Jennifer's home, bloodstain analysis, vehicle movements, mobile phone records, and discarded evidence collected from rubbish bins in Hartford.
Authorities also alleged that Dulos received assistance after the disappearance from his then-girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, and his attorney and friend, Kent Mawhinney, in efforts related to concealing evidence. Both denied involvement in Jennifer's disappearance, and subsequent criminal proceedings addressed allegations related to evidence tampering and conspiracy.
Capture
Fotis Dulos was arrested in June 2019 and initially charged with tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution.
As the investigation progressed, prosecutors filed additional charges, including murder, felony murder, and kidnapping in connection with Jennifer Dulos' disappearance.
Dulos pleaded not guilty and was released on bond while awaiting trial.
Trial & Sentence
Fotis Dulos never stood trial.
On January 28, 2020, while facing murder and related charges, he attempted suicide at his home in Farmington, Connecticut. He died two days later, on January 30, 2020.
Because of his death, the criminal prosecution against him was dismissed without a verdict. As a result, Dulos was never convicted of Jennifer Dulos' murder.
Notes
Jennifer Dulos' disappearance received widespread media attention throughout the United States and remains one of Connecticut's most well-known missing person and homicide investigations.
Although Jennifer's body has never been found, prosecutors publicly stated they believed the evidence demonstrated she had been killed. In 2023, a Connecticut probate court declared Jennifer Dulos legally dead.
The investigation continued after Fotis Dulos' death. Michelle Troconis was later convicted of conspiracy to commit murder, tampering with physical evidence, and hindering prosecution, while proceedings involving Kent Mawhinney have continued separately.
