In the early hours of May 15th, 2022, officers with the Shively Police Department in Kentucky responded to a chilling 911 call—someone had been shot. When they arrived at the home, they were met with a grim and chaotic scene. Inside, a woman—Cindy Burdette—was found dead from a gunshot wound to the chest. Two children were also in the home. One of them had been shot in the neck. She was still alive—and rushed to the emergency room. As officers worked to secure the scene, they listened to the children’s account of what had unfolded. According to them, their father had pulled the trigger—killing their mother and shooting one of them—before vanishing. The suspect was quickly identified as Ronald Burdette. He was nowhere to be found. Investigators obtained a warrant and began processing the home. What they found painted a harrowing picture of the violence that had occurred. Cindy was discovered lying in the doorway of a room converted into a makeshift bedroom. Bullet holes pierced closet doors and ceilings. Shell casings littered the floor of one bedroom. On February 9th, 2021, officers with the Portage Department of Public Safety responded to a welfare check after a man failed to show up for work for several days. Upon arrival, officers observed fresh tire tracks in the snow and no answer at the door, despite repeated knocking and doorbell rings. A stain on the living room carpet was visible through a window, and a Ring doorbell camera was mounted near the entrance, but there was no response from inside the home. Officers circled the property and discovered a heavily worn path in the snow leading from the driveway to the backyard. The trail bypassed the basement door—known to have been used by the homeowner’s adult son, Nicholas Johnson—and continued to a large pine tree. On January 21st, 2023, at approximately 8:30 AM, Roy City Police in Utah received a call from a man who stated he had killed his wife two days earlier. He provided a description of his clothing and followed the dispatcher’s instructions to exit the residence with his hands visible. Officers entered the residence to conduct a protective sweep and located a woman, later identified as 62-year-old Suzanne Meyer, deceased in the east bedroom. She was found face-down on the bed with her feet on the floor, positioned as if she had been kneeling. A gunshot wound to the head was visible, and officers noted a strong odor of decomposition. When officers arrived at the scene, they quickly realized this was no ordinary car accident. The driver, a 70-year-old female, had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators immediately suspected she had been shot by a passing motorist in what appeared to be a road rage incident. The victim, later identified as 70-year-old Julia Ann Gregor, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. On October 25th, 2016, police in Simpsonville, South Carolina, took a missing persons report for 22-year-old Catherine Boyer-Blauvelt. She told officers that Catherine, who went by Cati, hadn’t been answering her phone and had sounded unusual during their last conversation. While police conducted initial inquiries, contacting her workplace and documenting her absence, Cati’s family began frantically searching for her, reaching out to friends and checking places they thought she might be. With no immediate leads, Catherine was officially listed as a missing person. Approximately 30 hours later, dispatch received a call reporting the discovery of a body at a nearby abandoned house. The caller, a friend of Cati’s, said they had been searching for her and thought to check the abandoned house because Cati had frequented the location in her younger years. When officers arrived on scene, they found the body of a female hidden in the basement under a thin wooden board. The remains were later confirmed to be those of 22-year-old Catherine Boyer-Blauvelt. Police began notifying next of kin and made their way to inform Cati’s estranged husband, John Blauvelt, a soldier stationed at a nearby military base which was captured on camera.
