In the early hours of May 15th, 2022, officers with the Shively Police Department in Kentucky responded to a chilling 911 callāsomeone had been shot. When they arrived at the home, they were met with a grim and chaotic scene. Inside, a womanāCindy Burdetteāwas found dead from a gunshot wound to the chest. Two children were also in the home. One of them had been shot in the neck. She was still aliveāand rushed to the emergency room. As officers worked to secure the scene, they listened to the childrenās account of what had unfolded. According to them, their father had pulled the triggerākilling their mother and shooting one of themābefore vanishing. The suspect was quickly identified as Ronald Burdette. He was nowhere to be found. Investigators obtained a warrant and began processing the home. What they found painted a harrowing picture of the violence that had occurred. Cindy was discovered lying in the doorway of a room converted into a makeshift bedroom. Bullet holes pierced closet doors and ceilings. Shell casings littered the floor of one bedroom. In another, investigators found blood-soaked clothing and carpet, a shattered curtain, and a bullet hole through the window. Outside the home, a single projectile had torn through the wall and struck a nearby privacy fenceāevidence that the violence had spilled beyond the walls of the house. A warrant was issued for Ronald Burdetteās arrest. Less than 24 hours later, he was located across state lines in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He was staying at a hotel, alone. Jeffersonville Police obtained warrants to search his vehicle and the hotel room where he was found. Later that same day, detectives sat him down for questioning.
