On Sunday, September 20th, 2020, police in Barron County, Wisconsin, received a frantic 911 call from a woman who had returned home to find her son, 23-year-old Garrett Macone, bleeding on the porch. She reported that he did not appear to be breathing or have a pulse. When officers arrived, they found Garrett lying face down, dressed only in his underwear, with a visible head wound. Nearby, they noticed what appeared to be blood drag marks leading from inside the residence to where Garrett’s body was found. The scene was immediately secured, and police began their investigation. Inside Garrett’s bedroom, they discovered a significant amount of blood and signs that the room had been disturbed, with the bed overturned and belongings scattered. Garrett’s mother, Jana, informed police that Garrett had a live-in girlfriend named Devon and described their relationship as troubled from the start, expressing her suspicions. Police soon learned that Devon was still legally married to a man named Andrew Brunette, with whom she shared two children. Devon was unaccounted for, raising concerns about her safety. Detectives also discovered that Andrew Brunette had previously filed a restraining order against Garrett in August 2020, though it was dismissed in September. Detectives managed to contact Andrew Brunette, who appeared visibly nervous while speaking with officers.
