The Case of Matthew Shepard
Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old University of Wyoming student, was abducted, robbed and severely beaten by Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson near Laramie on 6 October 1998. He was abandoned while critically injured and discovered the following day. Matthew died six days later, and his murder became a landmark case in the campaign for expanded US hate-crime legislation.
