The Case of Susan Curtis

Susan Curtis, 15, disappeared from Brigham Young University in Provo on 27 June 1975 while attending the Bountiful Orchard Youth Conference. Ted Bundy later confessed to abducting and murdering her, claiming he buried her near Price, Utah, but her remains have never been recovered.

Susan was from Bountiful, Utah, and was attending the youth conference at BYU. She had ridden her bicycle approximately 50 miles from Bountiful to Provo to attend the two-day event. Following a formal banquet at the Wilkinson Student Center on the evening of 27 June, Susan left her friends to walk back to her dormitory, a distance of approximately a quarter-mile. She never arrived.

Susan disappeared while walking across the BYU campus after the evening banquet. Her disappearance was investigated as a kidnapping and homicide. No remains or definitive physical evidence from the murder have ever been recovered.

Susan's disappearance became part of the investigation into young women who had vanished in Utah and surrounding states. Ted Bundy eventually confessed to killing Susan. He told investigators that he had buried her body along a highway near Price, Utah, approximately 75 miles southeast of Provo. Searches based on his account failed to locate her remains. Bundy's confession to Susan's murder was his final known confession, made shortly before he was executed in January 1989.

Ted Bundy was never separately tried or convicted for Susan Curtis's murder. He confessed to killing her before his execution. Susan remains one of Bundy's identified victims whose remains have never been recovered.

Susan's disappearance remains an unsolved missing-person case despite Bundy's confession and his description of where he claimed to have buried her.
