The Case of Natalie "Dawn" Du'Mee

Natalie "Dawn" Du'Mee, 58, was murdered on 1 December 2024 after telling her fiancé, Timothy Gordon Hyder, that she no longer wished to marry him. Following an argument at their home in St. Cloud, Florida, Hyder shot her in the head. He was arrested at the scene, later convicted of murder, and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Natalie "Dawn" Du'Mee and Timothy Gordon Hyder had been in a relationship for approximately three years and were engaged to be married. On 30 November 2024, the couple attended a football watch party where they argued. After returning to their home on Western Sun Drive in St. Cloud, they continued discussing their relationship on the back porch. During the conversation, Dawn returned her engagement ring and told Hyder she no longer wished to marry him. Hyder went inside the home, retrieved a .357 revolver from a closet, returned outside and asked if she was certain about ending the engagement. When she confirmed her decision, he shot her in the head.

Police responded shortly before 1:00 a.m. on 1 December 2024 to the couple's residence in St. Cloud. Officers found Natalie "Dawn" Du'Mee seated on the back patio with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. A handgun was recovered in plain sight on the kitchen counter inside the home. Dawn's adult daughter, who had been upstairs watching a movie, heard the gunshot and found her mother critically injured before calling 911 at Hyder's direction.

Timothy Hyder remained at the residence and was taken into custody without incident. During interviews with investigators, Hyder admitted retrieving the firearm after Dawn ended their engagement. He reportedly told detectives that he had "snapped" and wished he could undo what had happened. Detectives recovered the firearm and documented the scene before charging Hyder with murder. The investigation concluded that the shooting followed the breakdown of the couple's relationship and was an act of domestic violence.

Timothy Gordon Hyder was convicted of the murder of Natalie "Dawn" Du'Mee. He was sentenced to life imprisonment, ensuring he will spend the remainder of his life in custody for Dawn's murder.

St. Cloud Police Chief Douglas Goerke expressed condolences to Dawn's family and described the case as a tragic act of domestic violence. The investigation also highlighted the importance of domestic violence awareness and support services for those attempting to leave abusive relationships.
