Investigations revealed that McQuay and his friend, William Weston Moon, had been searching for a methamphetamine pipe when an argument over Moon's backpack escalated. McQuay allegedly brandished a screwdriver, prompting Moon to retaliate by striking and repeatedly kicking McQuay, resulting in his death. Moon was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
