In September 2019, 56-year-old Steven McQuay was found beaten to death in the backseat of a pickup truck in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Investigations revealed that McQuay and his friend, William Weston Moon, had been searching for a methamphetamine pipe when an argument over Moon's backpack escalated. McQuay allegedly brandished a screwdriver, prompting Moon to retaliate by striking and repeatedly kicking McQuay, resulting in his death. Moon was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
