Justin Jason Keeding, widely known as the “Little Merchant Killer,” became one of the more notorious robbery-murder offenders of the early twentieth century after being linked to violent attacks against rural merchants and storekeepers. Operating during the 1920s, Keeding allegedly targeted isolated business owners in smaller communities, earning his nickname through repeated attacks connected to robbery and financial gain. The case generated significant regional media attention during the era because of the fear surrounding traveling offenders targeting small-town businesses. Authorities portrayed Keeding as a violent drifter willing to kill during robberies, while newspapers sensationalized the crimes through dramatic reporting common during the period. His eventual death in 1926 closed a violent criminal chapter that remained part of regional crime history for years afterward.

Waseem Daker became one of Georgia’s most controversial convicted killers after being found guilty in the 1995 murder of Delta flight attendant Karmen Smith and the attempted murder of her five-year-old son in Cobb County. Prosecutors argued that Daker carried out the attack as part of a long-running obsession with Smith’s roommate, Loretta Spencer Blatz, whom he had previously been convicted of stalking. The case drew national attention because of the violent nature of the crime, the lengthy delay before charges were filed, and the later disputes surrounding witness testimony and forensic evidence. The murder remained unsolved for years before investigators revisited DNA evidence collected from the scene. Hair evidence later linked to Daker became a central part of the prosecution’s case, eventually leading to his arrest and conviction more than a decade after the killing. The case later generated additional controversy after key witness Loretta Spencer Blatz partially recanted portions of her testimony following the trial, fueling debate around the conviction and keeping the case heavily discussed in true crime media, legal circles, and online communities.

Leo Boatman became notorious after carrying out a deadly stabbing attack on Bournemouth beach in England in 2024. The case generated major media attention across the United Kingdom because the killings occurred in a busy public coastal area during the evening, creating widespread panic and horror among witnesses. Boatman’s violent behavior, criminal background and apparent disregard for human life later became central issues throughout the investigation and court proceedings. The murders reignited public debate surrounding violent repeat offenders, knife crime and public safety in British coastal nightlife areas.

Brett Peter Cowan became one of Australia’s most notorious child killers after abducting and murdering Daniel Morcombe on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast in 2003. The case devastated Australia because Daniel disappeared while waiting for a bus in broad daylight, triggering one of the country’s largest and longest-running child disappearance investigations. For years, Daniel Morcombe’s disappearance remained unsolved as his family led tireless public campaigns to keep the case in the national spotlight. Cowan was eventually exposed through an elaborate undercover police operation in which officers secretly befriended him and recorded incriminating admissions about the murder. The investigation and conviction later became one of Australia’s most significant child homicide cases.

Joseph Kerekes was convicted of conspiring with Harlow Cuadra to murder Bryan Kocis, the founder of Cobra Video, in January 2007. Prosecutors established that the pair killed Kocis inside his Pennsylvania home as part of a plan to seize control of Cobra Video and profit from the career of Sean Lockhart, better known by his stage name Brent Corrigan, whose contract with Kocis had become the centre of a bitter legal dispute. A lengthy investigation involving DNA evidence, financial records and witness testimony ultimately exposed the conspiracy. Kerekes was convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy and related offences in 2011 and sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

Lance Kirkpatrick became one of Australia's most widely reported convicted killers after being found guilty of the 2022 murder of Melbourne mother Samantha Murphy. Murphy's disappearance prompted an extensive search across regional Victoria before investigators built a circumstantial case that ultimately led to Kirkpatrick's conviction. The case attracted national attention because of the lengthy investigation, widespread community involvement, and the absence of the victim's recovered remains.

Bryan Kohberger is an American man charged in connection with the 2022 murders of four university students in Moscow, Idaho. At the time of the incident, he was a criminology PhD student at Washington State University, located a short distance from the crime scene. The case gained widespread national and international attention due to the number of victims, the nature of the attack, and Kohberger’s academic focus on criminal behaviour. He was arrested in December 2022, and legal proceedings are ongoing.

Allan Joseph Legere, known as the "Monster of the Miramichi," was a Canadian serial killer, rapist and arsonist who murdered five people in New Brunswick between 1986 and 1989. Already serving a life sentence for the 1986 murder of shopkeeper John Glendenning, Legere escaped from a hospital in May 1989 and spent seven months terrorising the Miramichi region, murdering Annie Flam, sisters Donna and Linda Daughney, and Catholic priest James Smith. He was captured in November 1989 following a massive manhunt and convicted of the four murders in 1991, with DNA evidence playing a major role in the prosecution. Legere remained imprisoned for the rest of his life and died at Edmonton Institution in March 2026.
