In August 2012, Nancy Howard was the victim of a calculated murder-for-hire plot orchestrated by her husband, John Franklin Howard, in Carrollton, Texas. The attack left her critically injured but alive, ultimately exposing years of planning and deception behind the attempted killing.
The attacker approached Nancy in her garage, demanded her purse, and then shot her at close range with a handgun. The bullet entered above her left eye, travelled through her throat, and lodged near her right lung. The confined residential setting and targeted nature of the attack suggested premeditation rather than a random robbery.
Following the shooting, investigators quickly identified inconsistencies in the robbery narrative. The suspect, Dustin Hiroms, was arrested shortly after the attack. Further investigation revealed that Howard had paid at least $85,000 to arrange his wife’s murder. Evidence showed that he had been attempting to hire individuals to carry out the killing for several years prior to the incident. The motive was linked to an extramarital affair, with investigators uncovering details of a relationship that contributed to his desire to eliminate his wife.
