The Lake Herman Road murders are considered the first confirmed killings attributed to the Zodiac Killer. The attack targeted a young couple parked in a remote area, establishing a pattern of targeting vulnerable victims in secluded locations. At the time, the case was not immediately linked to a serial offender, delaying recognition of a broader pattern.

The attacker approached the parked vehicle and opened fire, killing both victims. The isolated location and sudden violence became consistent elements in later Zodiac attacks.
