On February 15, 2020, Amie Harwick was murdered in her Hollywood Hills home by her former partner, Gareth Pursehouse. The attack followed years of stalking and escalating obsession, culminating in a premeditated break-in and violent assault that ended in her death.
Pursehouse gained entry to the home and lay in wait for Harwick’s return. Once inside, he attacked her using physical force, including strangulation and blunt force trauma. He then threw her from a third-floor balcony, resulting in fatal injuries. Investigators also discovered he had brought additional items, including a syringe containing nicotine, indicating further planning.
Investigators uncovered a history of stalking and harassment by Pursehouse dating back years. Harwick had previously obtained restraining orders, highlighting her concerns about his behavior. Evidence showed that Pursehouse had attended an event where he confronted Harwick shortly before the murder. He later tracked her movements and planned the attack, bringing tools and waiting inside her home. Prosecutors argued that the killing was driven by obsession, resentment, and a desire for control following the end of their relationship.
