By June 27th, her family noticed, but thought she was just immersed in her studies... By June 30th, she was reported missing. According to McDaniel himself, t 4:30 a.m. on June 26, 2011, he used a master key to gain access to Lauren Giddings' apartment. He was wearing a mask and gloves... McDaniel strangled her with his hands in her bedroom. The following day, he dismembered her body in the bathroom with a hacksaw. Most of Giddings' remains were discarded in a dumpster on campus. However, her torso was thrown in a trashcan outside the apartment complex... Due to police presence at the property, the trash was never picked up that morning, and police discovered the bag with Lauren's torso inside of it... Stephen McDaniel went down to the station to give a statement to detectives, which turned into an interrogation... Here is that interrogation in it's entirety. (SPOILERS BELOW) In 2014, Stephen McDaniel accepted a plea deal and pleaded guilty to murder. His deal required him to describe his account of the murder and, in exchange, he would receive a life sentence and avoid the death penalty.
