On February 13, 2023, outside of the Conch Town Liquor & Lounge, 21-year-old Garrett Hughes was shot to death in the parking lot. The owner of the building, who was watching the Super Bowl at the bar (he owned the building, not the bar) took issue with Garrett allegedly urinating in the parking lot. After an altercation unfolded, one man was left dead and the other left believing he did the right thing. What do YOU think? Here is the interrogation of the shooter, Lloyd Brewer. (SPOILERS BELOW) Preston Brewer was charged with first degree murder. Since, his attorney's have tried to have the case dismissed as self-defense... That was denied. The Florida Stand Your Ground laws didn't really apply here... After many delays, Lloyd Brewer SHOULD stand trial in January of 2026... “The defendant was armed with a loaded handgun; “The defendant shot a half-naked, drunken, unarmed man; “The court found no persuasive evidence that Garrett Hughes used or threatened to use a broken beer bottle or anything else as a weapon; “The defendant had ample time to assess the situation and withdraw therefrom before Mr. Hughes, who the defendant had cornered, felt compelled to take desperate measures to defend himself; “Garrett Hughes only had his arms, legs, hands and feet to protect himself from the defendant; “The defendant emerged from the altercation virtually unscathed; “The defendant did not have a reasonable belief that he was facing imminent death, great bodily harm, or the commission of a forcible felony.” Not looking great for Lloyd Brewer...
