Three men forced their way into a family home in Norfolk, England, demanding to know where drugs were kept. The family had no connection to drugs whatsoever. It was a horrifying case of mistaken identity and the entire ordeal was captured on the family's own CCTV system. With the attackers having fled before officers arrived, the investigation rested on a single critical detail: one of the three men had failed to cover his face. Detectives quickly identified him as Aaron McIntosh, a local with a prior criminal history, and arrested him within hours. Under interview, McIntosh claimed he had been forced into the burglary against his will a story that fell apart when pub CCTV placed him drinking casually with his alleged co-conspirator Paul McCall just hours before the attack. As the net closed in on McCall, both men refused to hand over their phone PIN numbers. Through careful observation of pub CCTV footage, detectives spotted McCall entering his own PIN on camera a breakthrough that unlocked messages directly linking both men to the crime. The third suspect, Joe Cornford, proved harder to charge. His phone had been concealed by someone at his address during the arrest. Without it, the case was thin until forensic analysis of McIntosh's phone revealed deleted calls to Cornford placed less than an hour before the burglary. Combined with shop CCTV showing him in matching clothing hours earlier, all three were finally charged.
