On January 4th, 2021, at approximately 7:00 a.m., the Sheriff's Office dispatch center received a report of a structure fire in Minnesota. The caller reported that a shed on the property was fully engulfed in flames and expressed fear that his brother might still be inside. Deputy Bryan Dauk, along with local fire departments, responded urgently to the scene. Their arrival was captured captured on the following dashcam footage. When Deputy Bryan Dauk arrived on scene, the shed was fully engulfed in flames. He immediately spoke with the reporting party, who explained that his brother, Bruce Traxler, lived in the shed along with his adult son, Hardy Wills-Traxler. The caller further described that the shed included living quarters on the east end. He had attempted to enter the living quarters to check for Bruce but was overcome by the thick smoke and intense flames, making entry impossible. The caller also revealed that Bruce and Hardy had not been getting along recently, and he noted that Hardy’s vehicle was missing from the property. He pointed out fresh tire tracks leading away from where Hardy usually parked his car and stated his belief that Hardy might have been involved, urging law enforcement to find him, saying, ‘I think Hardy did something.’ At approximately 8:45 a.m., firefighters on the scene notified officers that they had spotted human remains on the floor inside the burned shed. This grim discovery raised suspicions that the fire was connected to a potential homicide, prompting a request for assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Just five minutes later, officers received a report from a nearby police department about a suspicious person. A snowplow driver reported being stopped by a man driving a gold Toyota sedan who made the alarming comment, ‘I killed my father.’ Acting swiftly, law enforcement issued a statewide alert to locate the vehicle. By 1:00 p.m., a Blue Earth County deputy spotted the gold Toyota sedan and conducted a high-risk traffic stop. The driver was identified as Hardy wills-Traxler. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Le Sueur County Justice Center for questioning.
