On the morning of January 8, 2022, Wausau Police were dispatched to a residence on Garfield Avenue following a 911 call reporting that an elderly woman was unresponsive. When officers arrived, they found Alene Schrader, 80 years old, deceased inside the home. Wausau Fire and EMS were already on scene and confirmed there were no signs of life. Officers documented the scene and spoke with family members present at the residence, including Alene’s granddaughters. Initial observations did not indicate forced entry or obvious signs of violence. Officers noted Alene’s medical history, prescription medications, and recent health concerns. Because the death was unattended, the Medical Examiner was notified and a follow-up investigation was initiated.
