Keiko is the world's best-known killer whale. He was the star of the movie, Free Willy. And the millions who saw the film wanted for its star the same fate as his alter ego. The Free Willy Foundation has raised more than $10 million with the aim, first, to get him out of his tiny, filthy aquarium in Mexico, then, to prepare him for a return to the wild. But as Liz Hayes reports, freeing Keiko is turning into a multi-million dollar fiasco. While every week or so whales beach themselves and die, with no scientific explanation, millions are being spent on one whale who might not want, nor be able to cope with life in the wild. This middle-aged film star is so institutionalised, so used to his life of solitary confinement, he can barely even catch live fish for himself. *THE PRICE OF FREEDOM (KEIKO) (1998)* ► Subscribe: http://9Soci.al/chmP50wA97J ► WATCH Full Episodes on 9NOW: https://9now.app.link/uNP4qBkmN6 *MORE VIDEOS like this one* ► https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uotiFrxj6zc ► https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS-kaOxPPn0 ► https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUWqElxcS6c&t=10s FOLLOW 60 Minutes Australia ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/60minutes9 ► TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@60minutes9 ► Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/60Minutes9 ABOUT 60 Minutes Australia 60 Minutes Australia have been telling the world’s greatest stories for over 40 years.
