The Gullia case centers on a tragic family incident that took place in Solon, Ohio, in November 2023. Theodore A. Gullia, a 65-year-old resident of the Sherwood Drive area, was found unresponsive inside his home after his wife contacted emergency services. When officers arrived, they determined that Theodore had passed away and that the circumstances surrounding his condition required a serious investigation. According to authorities, several family members were present when police responded. Investigators learned that Theodore’s adult son, Robert J. Gullia, had been at the home with him the previous night. As officers gathered information, they identified Robert as the person believed to be responsible for what happened. He was taken into custody at the scene, and police stated that they did not believe there was any ongoing danger to the wider Solon community. The case quickly became a matter of public concern because it involved a loss within a family home, a place usually associated with safety and trust. Local authorities expressed sympathy for the family and described the event as a tremendous loss. The matter was handled by Solon police, with assistance from other investigative agencies, including the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. In December 2023, the case moved forward when a Cuyahoga County grand jury issued an indictment against Robert Gullia. The charges included several serious counts connected to Theodore’s death and the events surrounding it. This marked an important step in the legal process, shifting the case from the initial investigation to formal court proceedings. Nearly a year later, in November 2024, Robert Gullia entered guilty pleas to reduced but still serious charges, including involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, and an offense involving the handling of Theodore’s remains. The court then sentenced him to a prison term ranging from 20 years to 25 and a half years.
