On a simmering night in August 2023, police in a Colorado town were called to a grocery store parking lot after bystanders witnessed a shocking act of violence. A car with out-of-state license plates slowly circled into the lot, stopped in front of three sleeping unhoused individuals, and fired multiple rounds at them before speeding away, leaving one person bleeding on the pavement. The injured person was rushed to the emergency room and treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.
