Madden was accused of causing Rachelle’s death inside their home, and prosecutors presented the case as a domestic violence homicide built around evidence from the scene, testimony from family members, and Madden’s own behavior before and during trial. The case drew wide attention in September 2024 when Madden went on trial in Butler County, partly because of his emotional outbursts in court and partly because prosecutors said he made statements suggesting responsibility while the proceedings were beginning. His and Rachelle’s daughter, McKayla Madden, also testified, adding an especially painful family dimension to the trial. Madden was charged with murder and felonious assault, and after the jury heard the evidence, he was convicted in September 2024. He was sentenced immediately after the verdict to 15 years to life, with an additional 10 years, meaning he would not be eligible for parole for 25 years. The case is remembered as a devastating domestic violence case because it involved a long-term relationship, a family left grieving, and a public trial that showed how quickly private conflict can become a life-changing tragedy for everyone connected to the victim.
