After strapping her son into his car seat, Heather was shot in the head. The shooter was caught on surveillance tape cameras walking away from the scene. Witnesses said they could have been wearing a disguise. Investigators believed the murderer was close to Heather to know when and where she and Steven exchanged Carson, but all their suspectsâ alibis checked out. Two weeks after the homicide, police showed the surveillance tape to Steven and he identified the shooter as his mother, 45-year-old Joanna Hayes.
