Just before 4 a.m. on May 9th, 2017, law enforcement in Leon County, Florida, received a panicked call from a 31-year-old man to report a murder, kidnapping, and — less pressing — a car theft. Earlier that night, the caller, who was struggling with drug addiction, had gone with his childhood friend to sell a close acquaintance some painkillers. That acquaintance lived at the home of her boyfriend. When the two men arrived to sell the drugs as planned, things went horribly, horribly wrong.
