In March 2021 officers from Gloucestershire Police in the UK knocked on the door of an unassuming house in the town of Tewkesbury acting on a tip that a vulnerable woman was being held captive within its walls. Little did they know they were about to uncover a crime that one officer with almost 30 years service stated was one of the worst he had ever seen. Inside the squalid home was a woman in her 40s with learning disabilities who was skin and bone and covered with signs of neglect from the 25 years she had been kept as a slave.
