She’d been working for a company that dealt with dangerous radioactive material, and she found out the company wasn’t following all of their legal safety protocols. Karen Silkwood planned to contact the New York Times and report her company's crimes… but that’s when she was mysterious exposed to a deadly plutonium radiation leak and lost her life before the files could be submitted. She’d been working in the lab while wearing special gloves and handling plutonium - as she did everyday. But all of the sudden, buzzers started going off that alerted Karen that her entire right arm was covered in radioactive material. She followed the standard decontamination routine, but it failed. She lost her life soon after. Many people believed that there must have been a cut or a tear in one of her gloves, but none was ever found. It was then uncovered that someone had most likely laced the inside of her gloves with deadly plutonium - likely in retaliation for her collecting files against her employer. Her employer was never held accountable and got away with it scott-free. This true crime documentary from 2023 will give you chills. Missing persons cases like this are often not solved years later.
