On April 20, 2025, officers responded to calls of a man breaking windows and behaving erratically in the 3300 block of Arterburn Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky. Bodycam video shows officers attempting to de-escalate, deploying a taser that failed to stop McCollum, before he reached for a weapon. One officer’s ballistic vest stopped the knife from causing serious injury, while another officer fired, striking McCollum in the head. He was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The case is now under investigation by LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit, with Kentucky State Police also reviewing the shooting. As of now, no charges have been filed against the officers involved.
