A South Carolina man, Donnie Ray Birchfield, the son of a pastor, is accused of holding four people captive in his home for years, including a couple and two women allegedly romantically involved with him. The case began when police responded to an unattended death in his house and uncovered disturbing allegations of abuse, control, and financial exploitation, with Birchfield now facing 16 charges.
