In depth interviews laid out all the details of this disturbing true crime story that saw five people charged with murder, including a mother and her son, and others scrambling to flip on their co-conspirators in return for more lenient sentences. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On July 19, 2014, recently divorced attorney and law professor, Dan Markel was gunned down on the driveway of his Tallahassee, Florida home. He was rushed to hospital but died the next day. Searching for a motive, investigators quickly focused on child custody issues following Dan’s divorce from Wendi Adelson, a clinical law professor and child advocate. Investigators spent nearly two years piecing together evidence that led them to a shocking conclusion: that Dan’s murder was a cold-blooded contract killing, orchestrated and financed by Charlie and Donna Adelson, the brother and mother of Dan’s ex-wife Wendi. The two gunmen, Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera, had been hired by Charlie’s girlfriend at the time of the murder, Katherine Magbanua. In 2016, Rivera pled guilty to the charge of murder as part of a plea deal. Three years later, Garcia was found guilty of murder. After an initial mistrial, in 2022, Magbanua was found guilty of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation to commit murder. Police arrested Charlie Adelson in April 2022.
