On February 5th, 2024, police in Kentucky received a 911 call reporting a possible domestic situation in progress. Local officers were dispatched immediately and began responding to the address. County deputies also headed to the scene, arriving shortly after the first officers. When officers arrived at the home on Indian Ridge Road in the Falls of Rough community of Grayson County, they quickly realized the situation was far more serious than a typical domestic call. Outside the residence, officers discovered 59-year-old Teresa Boles, who had suffered fatal injuries. The county coroner later pronounced her dead at the scene. Inside the home, officers found two additional victims. 60-year-old Joseph Boles had life-threatening injuries, and 32-year-old Lauren Tabor had very serious injuries. Investigators determined that all three had been attacked with a samurai sword during the incident. Authorities soon identified the suspected attacker as 49-year-old George Greer, a local man who had been at the home and who investigators later confirmed had a relationship with Lauren Tabor. By the time officers arrived, however, Greer had already fled the scene. Investigators believe Greer left the residence by stealing a nearby vehicle that had been left unlocked with the keys inside. The vehicle, a blue 2008 Chrysler Town and Country minivan with a broken rear window, was later discovered abandoned in a field off Edwards Cemetery Road. With the suspect on the run, law enforcement agencies across the county began searching the rural area and warned the public that Greer should be considered armed and dangerous. Multiple agencies joined the search, including the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police. Officers used K-9 units and helicopters to search the surrounding woods and fields. Several hours later, a county official spotted Greer near the abandoned minivan. When officers approached, Greer attempted to flee on foot into the wooded terrain. After a short chase, officers were able to apprehend George Greer at approximately 1:15 p.m., just a few miles from the original crime scene. Following his arrest, Greer was taken into custody and transported to the Grayson County Detention Center, where detectives began preparing to question him about what happened earlier that morning. On August 31, 2023, just after 8:00 p.m., police in North Port, Florida received a 911 call from a neighbor reporting screams coming from a home on Mallicoat Road. The caller said they heard a woman yelling for help and believed something serious was happening inside the residence. Officers were immediately dispatched. What they encountered when they arrived was captured on the following body-worn camera footage. As officers followed the blood trail outside the residence, they gathered information from neighbors who reported hearing a woman screaming for help shortly before police arrived. They confirmed that the homeowners were Jennifer and Robbie Tower, Dima Tower’s adoptive parents, and that Dima’s vehicle was no longer in the driveway. Inside the house, officers located Jennifer Tower in the living area and quickly determined the scene was the result of a violent attack. A second victim, Robbie Tower, was also found inside the residence. Both were pronounced deceased at the scene. With Dima’s vehicle missing, law enforcement began searching for him. A pursuit occurred later that evening, and after he abandoned the vehicle, he remained at large overnight. Multiple agencies conducted a search that continued into the next morning. Officers immediately responded, and what they encountered was captured on body-worn camera. Police confirmed that the victim, Lexus Wilson, age 23, was deceased at the scene. Her husband, Orbay, was present and told officers that he had been outside the trailer when he heard a gunshot. He claimed that Lexus had shot herself. As officers and EMS assessed the scene, several inconsistencies were noted. Investigators questioned the placement of the firearm next to Lexus’s body, and EMS personnel reported that her body felt colder than expected given the reported timeline. Officers spoke with Orbay at the scene, along with his children, who were also present at the residence. After Lexus’s family arrived and took custody of the children, officers asked Orbay to come to the police station for a formal interview. On the morning of January 8, 2022, Wausau Police were dispatched to a residence on Garfield Avenue following a 911 call reporting that an elderly woman was unresponsive. When officers arrived, they found Alene Schrader, 80 years old, deceased inside the home. Wausau Fire and EMS were already on scene and confirmed there were no signs of life. Officers documented the scene and spoke with family members present at the residence, including Alene’s granddaughters. Initial observations did not indicate forced entry or obvious signs of violence. Officers noted Alene’s medical history, prescription medications, and recent health concerns. On April 19, 2023, at approximately 10:45 p.m., 20-year-old Alexa Bartell was driving northbound on Indiana Street in Jefferson County, Colorado. She was on a phone call with a friend when the line abruptly went silent. After being unable to reach her, the friend used a location-tracking app to find Alexa’s last known position and located her vehicle off the road in a field. A large landscaping rock had been thrown through the windshield, fatally striking Alexa inside the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Around the same time, deputies were receiving reports from other motorists whose vehicles had been struck by large rocks while driving in Jefferson and Boulder Counties between approximately 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. that night. Detectives compared these incidents and identified a pattern involving large, round landscaping rocks thrown from a moving vehicle. Investigators collected rock evidence from each scene and obtained surveillance footage from nearby residences and businesses. Several cameras captured a black Chevy Silverado traveling through multiple incident locations during the relevant timeframes. Detectives then obtained geofence warrants to collect anonymized cell-phone data from the affected areas. A small number of devices appeared at multiple scenes, including one associated with the household of 18-year-old Joseph Edwin Koenig. A tip from an acquaintance led investigators to two additional individuals who were reportedly with Koenig that night, and who had been seen gathering landscaping rocks earlier in the evening. Based on cell-phone data, surveillance footage, witness interviews, and the timeline of events, detectives identified three suspects: Joseph Edwin Koenig, Nicholas “Mitch” Karol-Chik, and Zachary Kwak. On April 17th, 2024, officers in Wisconsin, were dispatched to a possible deceased female off a local walking trail. At 12:46 p.m., a 911 caller reported finding what she first thought was a backpack near the Peace Trail, off Afton Road and Hanover Road — until she got closer and realized it was a woman’s body. When officers arrived, they found the victim kneeling against a tree near the riverbank, cold to the touch, with no signs of life. Detectives secured the area while the Rock County Medical Examiner documented the scene and collected the body. By the following day, investigators confirmed the woman was Kiersten Hansen, after Human Services reported she’d missed an appointment and her mother told officers she hadn’t seen her since the night of April 16th. Detectives compared the victim’s tattoos with Kiersten’s social-media photographs and confirmed the match. During that early stage of the investigation, Kiersten’s mother mentioned one critical detail — the last person she believed Kiersten had been with was her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Logan Barclay. That information immediately shifted the direction of the case, giving detectives their first real lead. A male suspect was seen walking through the parking lot of a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, on the morning of August 3, 2019. After a few minutes, he returned to his vehicle and remained seated inside for a short time. He then exited the car, opened the trunk, and retrieved an AK-47-style rifle. He began shooting at people in the parking lot, striking multiple victims. The suspect made his way into the Walmart, continuing to fire. Inside the store, additional victims were shot, many caught by surprise as they shopped with their families or waited in line at checkout. Surveillance footage showed people running for cover, ducking behind shelves, cash registers, and product displays. Others lay on the ground, pretending to be dead in hopes of avoiding detection. Some employees guided customers to emergency exits, while others hid in storage rooms or behind locked doors in the break area. The gunman moved through different sections of the store, firing at random. Witnesses later described the scene as chaotic and terrifying, with loud gunshots echoing through the aisles. The shooting inside the building lasted approximately three minutes. After leaving the store, the suspect fired at a passing car in the parking lot, killing another person. He then got back into his vehicle and drove away from the scene. The first 911 call was placed at 10:39 a.m. Law enforcement officers arrived on scene approximately six minutes later and encountered multiple casualties, including both deceased and injured individuals. The suspect was stopped shortly after the shooting by a Texas Ranger and an El Paso police officer on a motorcycle. He was identified as 21-year-old Patrick Wood Crusius.
