For one week in February 2017, communities across Florida, Georgia and Alabama lived in fear of a killer on the run. It was a case that local a Sheriff described as the 'type that law enforcement fear most': a known killer, choosing his victims frequently and randomly. As the killer evaded capture he appeared to have company. The couple’s movements were tracked across state lines. Police began to question if his companion was his captive or his accomplice. Between the hours of 1:30AM and 4:30AM on Saturday October 21st 2023, 40 year-old Samantha Woll was stabbed to death inside of her townhouse in Detroit, Michigan. A neighbor discovered Sam lying on a walkway outside of her home later that morning where she had managed to crawl before succumbing to her injuries. On October 30th 2011, 44 year-old Karen Swift’s car was found abandoned on the side of rural highway in Northern Dyer County, Tennessee. The mother of four was last seen at her home the night before when she put her 9 year-old daughter to bed. When the kids awoke the next morning their mother was gone. To the frustration of investigators, there was very little indication of what may have happened to Karen; though they suspected early-on that they were dealing with a homicide. They had no witnesses. On a winter evening in Evansville, Indiana a hard-working firefighter, husband and father returned home to his wife after yet another long day.
