Police in Bismarck responded to a possible DUI call after a concerned witness reported a woman acting erratically in a parking lot. During questioning, 53-year-old Melanie Udell suddenly tried to drive away and allegedly struck an officer with her vehicle, prompting another officer to open fire. Udell was pulled from the car and given emergency aid but later died at the hospital, and investigators ultimately ruled the officer’s use of deadly force justified with no charges filed. A grand jury has indicted former University of Kentucky cheerleader Laken Snelling on new charges, including first-degree manslaughter, in the death of the newborn she allegedly gave birth to in her apartment in Lexington, Kentucky. Investigators say Snelling admitted she gave birth alone, later placed the baby, who an autopsy suggests was born alive and died of asphyxia, into a trash bag in a closet after attempting to clean up the scene, then left the apartment and ordered McDonald's.
