David Russell Williams is a former Canadian military officer and convicted murderer. He served as a Colonel in the Royal Canadian Air Force and even commanded CFB Trenton, one of Canada’s largest and most important airbases. His career appeared highly successful — he was a pilot, flew VIPs including the Prime Minister and Governor General, and was well respected within the military. However, in 2010, he was arrested and convicted for a series of heinous crimes, including: Two counts of first-degree murder (Jessica Lloyd, age 27, and Corporal Marie-France Comeau, age 38 — the latter also a fellow service member) Two sexual assaults involving home invasions Dozens of fetish-related break-ins where he stole women’s underwear and documented the acts with photos Williams’s arrest shocked Canada because of his high military rank and trusted position. After pleading guilty, he was sentenced in 2010 to two concurrent life sentences with no possibility of parole for 25 years. He was stripped of his rank, military honors, and uniform, which were later destroyed. He is currently serving his sentence at a maximum-security prison in Quebec. Edward Theodore Gein, also known as the Butcher of Plainfield and the Plainfield Ghoul, was an American murderer, possible serial killer, and body snatcher. His crimes, committed around his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin, gathered widespread notoriety in 1957 after authorities discovered that he exhumed corpses from local graveyards and fashioned keepsakes from their bones and skin. He also confessed to killing two women: tavern owner Mary Hogan in 1954 and hardware store owner Bernice Worden in 1957. Gein was initially found unfit to stand trial and confined to a mental health facility. By 1968 he was judged competent to stand trial. Robert Charles Browne is an American murderer who is currently serving two life sentences for the murders of two teenage girls in Colorado Springs, Colorado, committed in 1987 and 1991, respectively. A few years into his sentence, he sent letters to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office in which he claimed to be a serial killer who has killed approximately 48 or 49 people since 1970 across several states. Though most of his claims remain uncorroborated, Browne is considered a credible suspect in at least seven further killings, for which he has never been charged. Peter Tredget, formerly Bruce George Peter Lee, is a British serial killer and arsonist. He confessed to a total of 11 acts of arson, pleading guilty to 26 counts of manslaughter. Fourteen of these were overturned in two separate appeals. Lee was sentenced to indefinite secure hospital detention in 1981 and remains detained in East Riding of Yorkshire. Aileen Carol Wuornos was an American serial killer.[3] Between 1989 and 1990, while engaging in street prostitution along highways in Florida, Wuornos shot dead and robbed seven of her male clients. Alcala "toyed" with his victims, strangling them until they lost consciousness then waiting until they revived, sometimes repeating this process several times before finally killing them. One police detective described Alcala as "a killing machine," and others have compared him to Ted Bundy. He is often referred to as the Dating Game Killer, as he appeared as a contestant on the television show The Dating Game in 1978, during his murder spree. Levi Bellfield is a British serial killer. He was found guilty on 25 February 2008 of the murders of Marsha McDonnell and Amélie Delagrange and the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy and sentenced to life imprisonment. On 23 June 2011, Bellfield was further found guilty of the murder of Milly Dowler. On both occasions, the judge imposed a whole life order, meaning that Bellfield will serve the sentence without the possibility of parole. Danilo Restivo is an Italian convicted murderer and suspected serial killer. Restivo is serving a life sentence with a 40-year tariff for murdering his neighbor Heather Barnett in Bournemouth, England, in November 2002. Investigators' suspicions that Restivo had murdered Barnett were raised because of his alleged involvement in the 1993 disappearance of Elisa Claps in Potenza, Italy; he was not charged due to insufficient evidence. Subsequent to the 2010 discovery of Claps's body, Restivo was tried for the murder of Barnett, with evidence of similarities in the ritualistic placing of hair on the bodies of Claps and Barnett being heard by the English court. He was found guilty of murdering Barnett and later found guilty of murdering Claps by an Italian court. He is additionally suspected of committing at least six or seven further murders. Herbert William Mullin is an American serial killer who killed thirteen people in California in the early 1970s. He confessed to the killings, which he claimed prevented earthquakes. In 1973, after a trial to determine whether he was insane or culpable, he was convicted of two murders in the first degree and nine in the second and sentenced to life imprisonment. Michael Ross was an American serial killer. In 2005, he was executed by the state of Connecticut, making his execution the first in Connecticut (and all of New England) since 1960, and the last execution in Connecticut before the state repealed capital punishment in 2012. Joel David Rifkin is an American serial killer who was sentenced to 203 years in prison for the murders of nine women between 1989 and 1993. He is believed to have killed up to 17 victims between 1989 and 1993 in New York City and on Long Island, New York.
