On Monday, March 19th, 2018, the Polk County Sheriff received a frantic 911 call from a distressed teen, later identified as Dillen Murray. Dillen reported that his friend had attacked him in the woods with a baseball bat. He told the 911 operator that he managed to disarm his attacker and, in self-defense, beat his friend, 15 year old Giovanni Diaz, leaving him bleeding and lying in the woods. Deputies swiftly responded to the scene and found Giovanni unresponsive with severe facial trauma. Paramedics quickly transported Giovanni to the hospital. Nearby, detectives discovered an aluminum baseball bat, dented and covered in blood, next to the victim's body. The weapon's condition painted a grim picture of the violent encounter. Dillen was detained by deputies and transported to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. There, in the stark confines of the interrogation room, the following interview unfolded, aiming to unravel the details of the brutal incident that had left one friend fighting for his life and the other facing serious charges.
