Three University of Arizona students — Katya Castillo-Mendoza, Sophia Troetel, and Josiah Santos — were struck and killed while crossing the street near campus, allegedly by 19-year-old Louis John Artal, who police say sped away in his Porsche instead of stopping to help. Katya later died after her family made the heartbreaking decision to remove her from life support. Police in Berea, Ohio responded to a report of a woman nodding off behind the wheel and driving erratically in a liquor store parking lot, where they found 31-year-old Cierra Graciani in her Jeep with an empty bottle of Hennessy inside. After refusing field sobriety and breath tests, she was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and allegedly became combative during booking, lunging at and kicking officers while handcuffed to a bench. Despite the chaotic scene and additional allegations of assaultive behavior, Graciani was ultimately issued citations for OVI and refusing a chemical test before being released on bond. Olivia Wood, a 29-year-old woman from Somerset, England, was preparing to leave what prosecutors described as an abusive and controlling relationship with her boyfriend, Kieron Goodwin, when she was tragically murdered. Police in Waterbury, Connecticut say a woman held her stepson captive for 20 years and compared the the conditions the victim was living in to a World War II concentration camp. Detectives say Kimberly Sullivan locked the victim away in a room inside her home and when he fought his way out, police say the now man weighed only 68 pounds.
