Tracy Burke and Karen Comer were shot to death on September 11th, 2007 in front of Tracy's three young children. The children then spent the night alone in the home, too afraid to call for help until the following morning. Police quickly focused on Tracy's husband, Sergeant Brent Burke as the primary suspect. The following years saw multiple mistrials and ultimately led to Brent being court-martialed. Curtis Reeves and Chad Oulson got into an argument before a matinee showing of Lone Survivor starring Mark Whalberg. Curtis was upset that Chad was on his phone, so went to complain to management. Paul Howell was killed during a carjacking, in his parent’s driveway in Edmond, Oklahoma in July 1999. Julius Darius Jones, only 19 years old at the time, was convicted of the murder. Two decades later, Julius’ case caught the attention of some big name celebrities - from Kim Kardashian, James Corden, Baker Mayfield and Demi Lovato. The voice that these celebrities have given to the argument of Julius’ innocence has had a powerful impact. While Paul Howell’s family maintains that the evidence points to Julius Jones as guilty of the crime, a pardon and parole board in Oklahoma has recommended - twice - to have his sentence commuted to life with the possibility of parole. At the time of publishing this video, Julius remains behind bars. Like so many capital murder cases, his is not as straight-forward as his supporters would like to believe, nor is it clear that he would have been convicted had he received a fair trial. In 2019 Grand Rapids police receive a 911 call where Keyona Griffin is whispering and clearly afraid for her life. However, when police arrive at the scene no one answers the door and there are no signs of forced entry so they decide to leave. About two hours later a second 911 call is received for the same address. This time it is Keyona's brother who just found Keyona shot to death in the home. They also find Keyona's aunt, Cherletta Baber-Bey dead in an upstairs bedroom. Police quickly piece together that it was Cherletta's boyfriend, Derrell Brown, that is likely the killer and begin canvassing the area. Traces of Derrell's movements after the murders are found on CCTV footage but the police are unable to locate him. Around a year later further tragedy struck the family when a house fire took the lives of Jacqueline Baber-Bey and Emareyon Cummings after a candle which was lit in vigil for Keyona and Cherletta set the house on fire. At the time of this video Derrell Brown has still not been apprehended. On a sunny Wednesday in September 2012, the al-Hilli family - Saad, his wife Ikbal, their two young daughters Zainab (7) and Zeena (4) and Ikbal's mother, Suhaila - left their campsite on the edge of Lake Annecy to take a forest walk in the nearby trails, surrounding the French Alps. The family was on vacation in France from their home in Surrey, England. They drove up a rough road and stopped - or were stopped - at a lay-by in the road. What happened next is shrouded in mystery. A British cyclist with a home in the area, Brett Martin, would happen upon the al-Hilli's maroon BMW only moments after a brutal gun attack that left four dead. He took steps to immediately assist the injured Zainab and seek further help. The youngest daughter, Zeena, was found safe inside the car. A French cyclist, Sylvain Mollier, that had passed Mr Martin on the road only minutes earlier was also found deceased in the lay-by. Did he happen upon the scene or was he in the wrong place at the wrong time? The investigation into what happened to the four victims has taken some bizarre turns - from family inheritance disputes and secret ex-husbands to accusations of hiding Saddam Hussein's fortune. The investigation is still active and led to the arrest of an unknown man - for the second time - in January 2022.
