91 - A Film About Guns in America (Sandy Hook) Crime Documentary True Crime (2019)
America’s 325 million residents own an estimated 347 million firearms. Not surprisingly, gun violence has become one of the most urgent public health issues facing Americans today. In 91%, a cross-section of U.S. gun violence victims tell their heartbreaking stories of loss, pain, and a heroic search for hope in a nation stalled in a senseless gun control debate. Throughout these otherwise unrelated shootings, we find a common thread – the gunmen had all-too- easy access to the virtually untraceable, high-powered weaponry used in their attacks. In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, a 2013 poll revealed that 91% of Americans support comprehensive background checks – a factor that could prevent thousands of similar gun violence tragedies nationwide. Yet, divisive political rhetoric and congressional gridlock continues to perpetuate a flawed system that hurts communities across the country. Moving beyond the confusing gun control politics and avoiding any discussion about the often-unpredictable motivations of rampage killers, 91% shows that Americans almost unanimously support both 2nd amendment rights and common sense regulation. The film finds a shared language between citizens on both sides of the issue, encouraging them to move common sense policy forward by speaking up in a conversation typically dominated by firearm lobbyists and manufacturers. By highlighting the impact of unregulated gun sales on schools, families, and communities across the country, 91% addresses the real problems and possible solutions to gun violence in America. It’s something we all agree about, we just don’t know it yet. Forensic Investigators: The Flemington Robbery (Australian Crime) Crime Documentary True Crime (2019)
When armed robbers launched a surprise attack on security guards in the process of restocking two ATMs in January 2002, they did so in broad daylight along a busy shopping strip just minutes from the heart of Melbourne. So brazen was the assault, when police arrived moments later one witness told them he thought the balaclava-clad figures must have been making a movie. Examining the scene, it was immediately apparent the hold-up had been well-planned. Clearly the bandits were not amateurs. They had managed to escape with $150,000 but who were they? Thanks to the help of witnesses and some unusual forensic evidence, that included green floral contact paper and orange rope, detectives were eventually able to identify and capture the two masked men who'd committed this violent crime. Forensic Investigators: Hagop Levonian (Australian Crime) Crime Documentary True Crime (2019)
In 1986, terrorism rocked Melbourne when a bomb exploded in the car park below the Turkish consulate in South Yarra. Human remains at the crime scene suggested that the bomber had been killed in the blast, but who was he and did he act alone? Detectives discovered the victim's watch had stopped at exactly 9.14 and 28 seconds. It was potentially the time that she'd been killed. Crime scene examiners also found the scattered remnants of two beer bottles, and a number of bloodied footprints and paw prints on the carpet through most of the house. In the main bedroom, drawers were open, clothes scattered, yet no valuables had been taken. The scene just didn't add up. Thanks to a forensic watchmaker's expertise and the purchase of a slab of beer to test some laws of physics, the true picture emerged and the motive for the woman's murder was discovered. People are fascinated, have a morbid curiosity and are drawn to stories of murder. Forensic Investigators: Lindsay Robert Rose (Australian Crime) Crime Documentary True Crime (2019)
On Valentine's Day 1994, two women (Kerrie Pang & Fatma Ozanal) were found in a burning massage parlour in Sydney. The owner had been stabbed while her employee had been shot three times. It appeared that the manager was the target in the frenzied attack. Her husband told police she'd been receiving threats prior to her life being taken, but whether it was a disgruntled client or a rival business, he was unsure. As investigators delved into the manager's past and her final movements, all was not what it seemed. The attacker had started the fire to destroy any evidence but investigators were able to pick through the ashen remains and uncover the truth ... a truth that would not only lead to her killer but to a murder spree spanning 10 years. Lindsay Robert Rose shot and killed Fatma Ozonal and then attacked his former girlfriend Kerrie Pang at Pang's massage parlour, "Kerrie's Oasis" in Gladesville. Ronald Waters was paid $500 to assist Rose by knocking on the door and gain access to the premises (Pang would have recognised Rose). The murder of Pang had been arranged by her de facto partner Mark Lewis. He was later found guilty of both murders and sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole and 18 years for the murders of Pang and Ozonal. Waters pleaded guilty to being an accessory to murder and was sentenced to 18 months periodic detention. Evidence led at Lewis' trial indicated that the motive for Pang's murder was difficulties in Lewis and Pang's relationship and Lewis' dissatisfaction with Pang's line of work as well as Rose's reported hatred of Pang. Ozonal was not part of the murder plan and was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. On 18 June 1998 Rose pleaded guilty to five murders, including those of Pang and Ozonal and Bill Cavanaugh, in the Supreme Court of New South Wales. On 3 September 1998 Rose was sentenced to five consecutive terms of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
