Around 11 p.m. on a spring night in 2022, deputies in a coastal Florida county were dispatched to the scene of a violent single-car crash. Witnesses reported that a small sedan had been swerving through traffic before it slammed into a massive oak tree, then flipped multiple times down a steep embankment. The driver — a woman in her early twenties — managed to climb out, dazed and stumbling, before vanishing into the darkness. When officers arrived, they began a frantic search.
