On February 2023, Fairfax County police in Virginia responded to a call from the Banfield family home. A man identified as Joseph Ryan had broken into the house with a knife and attacked Christine Banfield, who was home alone at the time. Joseph was subdued by Brendon Banfield and Juliana Peres, who arrived at the house shortly afterward. Brendon was Christine's husband, and Juliana was the family's nanny, having worked for them for nearly two years. Christine was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but she succumbed to her injuries and passed away.
