Joseph's girlfriend - a former professional cheerleader - told police they needed to look at her jealous ex, plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Michael Dixon, who had been stalking her and trying to break up her new relationship. As detectives looked into Dixon's possible involvement in the killing, a tip came in from a local man. He reported that his friend David Shepard had been bragging about murdering a man in Lubbock.
