Lee Gilley, the Texas man accused of strangling his pregnant wife to death, is now fighting extradition from Italy after allegedly fleeing the U.S. weeks before his capital murder trial. Prosecutors say Gilley had been planning an escape for months, allegedly discussing fake identities, cutting off his GPS monitor, and fleeing overseas before he was ultimately detained in Milan with suspected forged documents. In court this week, Gilley denied killing his wife, claimed he fled because he feared the American justice system, and argued he chose Italy because of its opposition to the death penalty.
