On a cold night in late December, 2021, a young police officer in a Midwestern city was looking forward to enjoying a rare night off. At just 25 years old, he was deeply dedicated to serving his community and caring for his close-knit family. That evening, as he sat inside his car on a rainy street, his life was suddenly and violently cut short. An 18-year-old suspect approached the vehicle with a firearm and ordered him to get out. When the officer tried to defend himself, the suspect opened fire, dragged him from the car, and fled the scene in the vehicle.
