On December 18th, 2022, police in a city in New Mexico raced to a home on the west side after calls poured in reporting a shooting at a house party. An 18-year-old woman, who had been celebrating receiving a full scholarship to college for the coming year, was struck by a bullet that passed through three layers of wall. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically did not survive. Very quickly, partygoers, neighborhood cameras, and social media posts began piecing together what had happened. Four individuals—one of them a 16-year-old boy—had been kicked out of the party after being caught by the homeowner flashing firearms and taking photos and videos with them.
