Aaron Campbell became one of Scotland's most infamous child killers after abducting and murdering seven-year-old Megan Montgomery in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, in 2020. Campbell lured the child from outside her home before killing her and concealing her body in nearby woodland. Following an extensive police investigation, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with one of the longest minimum terms imposed in Scotland for the murder of a child.

Albert Fish became one of the most horrifying killers in American history after murdering children during the early 1900s and later sending grotesque letters to victims’ families. Known for extreme sadism, self-harm and cannibalistic behavior, Fish terrorized New York and surrounding states while hiding behind the appearance of a quiet elderly man. Anders Behring Breivik is a Norwegian domestic terrorist responsible for the 2011 attacks in Oslo and on the island of Utøya, the deadliest act of violence in Norway since World War II. His coordinated attack involved a car bombing followed by a mass shooting, resulting in 77 deaths. Breivik was arrested on the day of the attacks and later convicted of terrorism and mass murder. He received the maximum sentence under Norwegian law, with provisions allowing for indefinite extension based on continued risk.

Andrei Chikatilo became one of the Soviet Union’s most infamous serial killers after murdering and mutilating dozens of women and children across Russia and Ukraine between 1978 and 1990. Nicknamed “The Butcher of Rostov” and “The Red Ripper,” Chikatilo terrorized the Soviet Union for over a decade while authorities struggled to identify the perpetrator amid political pressure, investigative failures and widespread public fear. His crimes shocked investigators because of their extreme brutality, sexual sadism and mutilation of victims. Chikatilo appeared outwardly quiet and socially awkward, allowing him to blend into ordinary Soviet society while secretly carrying out one of the deadliest serial murder sprees in modern history. His eventual arrest and confession exposed major flaws within the Soviet criminal justice system and transformed the case into one of the most notorious serial killer investigations ever conducted behind the Iron Curtain.

Austin Drummond became the focus of a massive manhunt after being accused of murdering four members of a Tennessee family in a brutal quadruple homicide case. Authorities alleged Drummond carried out the killings before abandoning a surviving infant connected to the victims, a detail that intensified national outrage and media attention surrounding the investigation. The horrifying nature of the crimes shocked communities across Tennessee as law enforcement agencies launched a widespread search operation to locate Drummond. Investigators described the suspect as armed and dangerous while prosecutors later outlined allegations involving execution-style killings, family targeting and efforts to evade capture following the murders.

Brandon Andrew Clark became one of the most notorious killers in recent American criminal history after murdering 17-year-old internet personality Bianca Devins in Utica, New York, on July 14, 2019. The case received worldwide attention after Clark posted graphic photographs of the crime scene on social media, prompting renewed debate about online communities, the rapid spread of violent content, and the responsibilities of social media platforms. Clark later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

Brenton Harrison Tarrant became internationally known after carrying out the Christchurch mosque attacks on March 15, 2019. He attacked worshippers at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, killing 51 people and injuring 40 others before being arrested by police. Tarrant later pleaded guilty to 51 counts of murder, 40 counts of attempted murder, and one terrorism charge. In 2020, he became the first person in New Zealand to receive a sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

Bryan Kohberger is an American man charged in connection with the 2022 murders of four university students in Moscow, Idaho. At the time of the incident, he was a criminology PhD student at Washington State University, located a short distance from the crime scene. The case gained widespread national and international attention due to the number of victims, the nature of the attack, and Kohberger’s academic focus on criminal behaviour. He was arrested in December 2022, and legal proceedings are ongoing.
