Mixed Killers

Myra Hindley became one of the United Kingdom's most notorious child killers after participating in the Moors Murders with Ian Brady between 1963 and 1965. Together, they abducted, sexually assaulted, tortured, and murdered five children before burying several victims on Saddleworth Moor in northern England. Hindley's role in the murders, coupled with her decades of denied parole and widespread public hatred, cemented her place as one of Britain's most reviled criminals.

Rosemary Pauline West became one of the United Kingdom's most infamous serial killers after participating in a series of murders with her husband, Fred West, between the 1970s and 1980s. Convicted of ten murders in 1995, Rose played a central role in abusing, controlling, and murdering young women and girls, many of whom were buried at the couple's home at 25 Cromwell Street in Gloucester. The case shocked Britain because of the scale of the crimes and the years they remained hidden behind the façade of an ordinary family.

Sarah Buzzard was convicted of the aggravated murder of 21-year-old Ryan Zimmerman, whose dismembered remains were discovered in Mercer County, Ohio, in January 2016. Zimmerman had moved from Kentucky to Columbus in 2015 and was living with Buzzard, her then-husband and Buzzard's friend Naira Jen Whitaker. Investigators determined that Zimmerman was killed inside the Columbus apartment in September 2015. Buzzard later confessed to strangling him and dismembering his body, telling investigators that she was angry with Zimmerman and believed he had contributed to the breakdown of her marriage. Whitaker was identified as an accomplice but died by suicide when police attempted to arrest her in 2021. Buzzard pleaded guilty to aggravated murder in December 2021 and was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years.

Steven Arthur Rios was a Columbia, Missouri, police officer who was convicted of murdering 23-year-old University of Missouri student Jesse Valencia in June 2004. Rios had been involved in a secret sexual relationship with Valencia, who was reportedly threatening to reveal the relationship to Rios's police chief. Valencia was found with his throat slashed near his apartment. Rios was initially convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole, but the conviction was overturned because of evidentiary errors. At his 2008 retrial, he was convicted of second-degree murder and armed criminal action and sentenced to life imprisonment plus 23 years, with the convictions subsequently upheld on appeal.
