Al McLean: Dayton OH Child Murderer
Al McLean (Dayton Murderer), born in Dayton, Ohio, became the central figure in one of the most harrowing child abuse cases in recent American history. In December 2019, the tragic death of his 10-year-old son, Takoda Collins, unveiled a prolonged period of severe abuse and neglect that shocked the nation.
McLean’s actions were not isolated incidents but part of a disturbing pattern that spanned several years. Reports indicate that from 2015 until Takoda’s death, McLean subjected his son to relentless physical and emotional torment. This included beatings, forced stress positions, and confinement in a locked, dark attic. The abuse escalated over time, culminating in Takoda’s death from blunt force trauma, compressive asphyxia, and submersion in water.
Despite multiple reports to child protective services and school authorities expressing concern for Takoda’s well-being, interventions failed to prevent the ongoing abuse. In 2018, McLean withdrew Takoda from school under the pretense of homeschooling, further isolating him and removing a critical safety net.
“He must have drowned because I didn’t beat his [butt] that bad today.”
~ Al McLean
In September 2021, McLean pleaded guilty to charges including murder, rape, kidnapping, and child endangerment. He was sentenced to 51 years to life in prison, with the judge condemning his actions as “pure evil.” McLean’s fiancée, Amanda Hinze, and her sister, Jennifer Ebert, who were aware of the abuse and failed to intervene, received prison sentences of 22 to 27.5 years and 8 years, respectively.
The case of Al-Mutahan McLean underscores the critical importance of vigilant child protection systems and the devastating consequences when they fail. It serves as a grim reminder of the responsibility society holds in safeguarding its most vulnerable members.
