📰 In the late afternoon of July 29, 2025, authorities in Tennessee were alerted to a disturbing scene: a 7-month‑old baby girl placed alone in a car seat on the porch of a random home in Tigrett, Dyer County.

That call would soon spiral into the investigation of a brutal quadruple homicide: the child’s parents, grandmother, and uncle were discovered dead hours later in a wooded area near Tiptonville, Lake County. The suspect: Austin Robert Drummond, age 28, a recently released felon with ties to the Vice Lords gang and a known associate of the victims.

Investigators quickly linked the infant to the four victims identified as Adrianna Williams (20) and James M. Wilson (21), the child’s parents; Cortney Rose (38), the maternal grandmother; and Braydon Williams (15), the maternal uncle found fatally shot in forested terrain near Reelfoot Lake. Within hours, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), local sheriff’s offices, and federal marshals were mobilized on a coordinated manhunt to locate Drummond, now on Tennessee’s Most Wanted list and considered armed and dangerous.

Back on July 29, a witness reported spotting a van or mid‑sized SUV that had dropped the infant at the front yard. As authorities canvassed the area, missing person reports and phone calls led them deeper into Dyer and Lake counties. Later that evening, bodies were located about 25 to 30 miles north of Tigrett solidifying the connection between the abandoned child and the murder victims.

By July 31, law enforcement identified Austin Robert Drummond as the prime suspect. Drummond, who had been previously incarcerated for an armed robbery he committed in 2013 during which he took $44, had been released from prison in September 2024 after serving nearly a 13-year sentence. During a 2020 parole hearing, he had admitted to threats against jurors, involvement in gang activity, and multiple disciplinary violations while in prison including an alleged attempt to commit murder behind bars.

Drummond’s history contributed to the urgency of the search: law enforcement described him as “extremely dangerous,” warranting no-contact orders and shelter-in-place warnings around the Jackson area, where his white 2016 Audi believed to belong to him was found abandoned August 1. Agents also recovered a 1988 white Ford pickup truck tied to Drummond near Burnt Mill Road evidence he may have burned through multiple vehicles while eluding capture.

Surveillance footage released during the manhunt depicted Drummond in camouflage clothing, orange backpack, and armed with a rifle. He was seen prowling near buildings and attempting to open doors, heightening fears that he remained in the Jackson area even amid an escalating search by TBI, U.S. Marshals, and FBI agents.

Amid mounting pressure, authorities arrested two of Drummond’s associates on August 2 and 3: Tanaka Brown (29) and Giovonte Thomas (29) were each charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder, and Brown also faced tampering with evidence charges. A third person, Dearrah Sanders, was also arrested earlier tied to the case.

Finally, on August 5, Drummond was captured in Jackson, Tennessee, ending the seven‑day manhunt. His arrest came after law enforcement zeroed in using surveillance footage, tip lines, and vehicle tracing. He now faces multiple felony charges: four counts of first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and related weapons offenses. Authorities have indicated they are considering seeking the death penalty.

Much remains unclear: the motive behind the killings is still under investigation, and why the infant was left alive miles away is not explained. Drummond’s girlfriend is reportedly the half-sister of Cortney Rose, suggesting a personal connection with the victims but no official motive has been released. Prosecutors describe the murders as targeted rather than random.

Community members expressed shock and betrayal, especially those who knew Drummond as a former family friend. One relative also aunt to three of the victims who wrote on social media, “We all trusted him…he has literally been nothing short of amazing to us…until this.” Fear and grief rippled through the tight-knit rural counties where residents were urged to lock doors amid the active fugitive search.

Law enforcement has offered a combined $17,500 reward (TBI and U.S. Marshals) for information leading to Drummond’s capture prior to arrest. Now that he’s in custody, prosecutors will move forward with formal arraignments in Dyer and Lake counties. Drummond is expected to face indictment soon, and hearings on bond, motions, and potential death penalty proceedings will follow.
