On June 7, 2017, Howard Biederman was recovering from surgery during his second battle with colon cancer. His daughter-in-law, Kathy, delivered his medication early in the morning. But when Howard failed to answer her calls into the afternoon, she became concerned. 81-year-old Howard sat upright in his usual armchair. He was shirtless. His glasses were broken on the ground beside him - and the chair, floor, and walls were slathered with still-wet blood. His eye was purple with bruises, and his mouth was ajar. Panicked, Kathy called 9-1-1. When law enforcement arrived, they, too, were shocked by the violence and carnage of the scene before them.
