JonBenét Ramsey, a six-year-old child beauty queen, was found murdered inside her Boulder home after a ransom note was discovered. The case quickly became one of the most infamous unsolved murders in the United States, marked by controversy, media frenzy, and unanswered questions that persist decades later.

Kathleen "Kathie" McCormack Durst, 29, was a medical student whose marriage to wealthy real-estate heir Robert Durst was breaking down when she disappeared on January 31, 1982. Kathie was last seen alive after leaving a friend's home in Connecticut following a telephone argument with Robert. He later claimed he drove her to a railway station so she could return to Manhattan. Kathie was never seen again. Her family maintained for decades that she had been murdered, and investigators eventually concluded that Robert Durst was responsible. He was charged with her murder in 2021, but died in January 2022 before he could face trial. Kathie's body has never been recovered.

Keren Rowland, 20 and pregnant with her first child, disappeared near Canberra on 26 February 1971 after her car ran out of petrol. Her remains were discovered months later in a pine plantation. More than five decades later, her family believes Ivan Milat may have killed her, placing Keren at the centre of renewed investigations into his possible additional victims.

Morris Black, 71, was a neighbour of Robert Durst in Galveston, Texas. On September 28, 2001, Black was killed inside Durst's apartment during what Durst claimed was a struggle over a handgun. Durst admitted shooting Black and later dismembering his body before disposing of the remains in Galveston Bay. Black's dismembered remains began washing ashore in October 2001, but his head was never recovered. Durst was charged with murder and tried in 2003. He testified that the shooting occurred in self-defence, and the jury acquitted him of murder. He later pleaded guilty to evidence tampering and bail-jumping charges.

Sixteen-year-old Trellis Sykes was murdered on her way to Worthing High School in Houston, Texas, on May 13, 1994. Investigators believe her killer lay in wait before launching a sudden attack, but despite decades of investigation, the case remains unsolved.

In October 2000, two unrelated women sharing the name Mary Morris were murdered within four days of each other in the Houston area. The extraordinary coincidence sparked decades of speculation over whether one woman was mistakenly killed instead of the other, although investigators have never conclusively linked the cases.
